BMW AG is developing a curved touchscreen display to launch in the all-new iNext electric crossover vehicle due in 2021.
The large screen will integrate the vehicle’s instrument cluster and infotainment systems into a single unit. Mounted to the dashboard by slender magnesium brackets, the display is designed to look like it’s floating in place.
BMW says the screen will be oriented toward the driver but still be accessible to the front-seat passenger. The reconfigurable digital display allows information to be shifted closer to the driver or passenger as desired.
A concept version of the iNext was presented at the Los Angeles auto show last November. BMW claims the production model will have a range of about 400 miles and be capable of Level 4 autonomous driving.
