Siemens and SAP Announce Partnership
Siemens Digital Industries and SAP are partnering to help create enterprise integration and Industry 4.0
Two Silos to One
You can think of Siemens Digital Industries as a provider of tools for the Engineering Department.
You can think of SAP as addressing the business side of the house.
But everyone knows—as we move toward the age of Industry 4.0—that silos aren’t a good thing.
Together
So the two companies announced a partnership.
Which means that there will be connection across product lifecycle management (PLM), supply chain, service and asset management.
Digital models to real products will all be connected. From concept to aftermarket.
Real-time information and model history tied together by a digital thread.
Quote:
"Digital transformation will be critical for the manufacturing industries to increase productivity, flexibility and accelerate innovation, so companies must come together in new ways to enable the digital enterprise,” said Klaus Helmrich, member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of Siemens Digital Industries.
Which explains the partnership between Siemens and SAP.

If you were to go back in time to the turn of this century (sounds more amazing than “sixteen years ago”) and asked someone in the automotive product development community about the dominance that would exist for all manner of digital design tools, you would undoubtedly get a robust response that would make it absolutely clear that by 2016—if not before—the digitization of design would be at full throttle and that people would be working in studios with Oculus Rift headgear as commonly as prescription lenses.
